The whole larva

Tests written down before they ran

One live simulation of a real Platynereis larva's published wiring: 2,675 cells, 26,881 synapses. Each test's rule was written down before its first run. It is never edited: a change is a new version. Each test runs on the real wiring and on 50 randomly rewired copies, where every cell keeps its number of connections but who connects to whom is scrambled. A test passes only if the real wiring beats 95% of them. A failed test stays here, marked failed.

Measured and chosen

What is measured and what is chosen

Every number the model and its stimuli use, from the manifest. Measured numbers come from the published data. Chosen numbers are ours. The two lists are kept apart.

Limits

What the model is not

  • A simple model runs it. Firing-rate cells. Each connection's strength is its synapse count, scaled so the wiring can't amplify itself. Known transmitters decide when the cilia stop. Nothing trained. Simplified
  • The model is simpler than the animal. The transmitter is known for 79 of 2,675 cells, so almost every synapse is excitatory. Real neurons spike, inhibit and modulate.
  • It can't read. Your message reaches it only as light. It understands nothing.
  • It doesn't choose. A tug shows which way its body turned, not a preference. Nothing here predicts prices.

Stated plainly

The parts that aren't the worm

  • Your message becomes light. Drawn in a pixel font, one column per step. Each eye cell gets its strip's brightness; which strip is our choice. Chosen
  • Some choices are ours. The eye mapping, the light sensors' threshold, the poke cells, the swimming physics and the drawing.
  • Positions are partly placed. 1,199 cells at traced positions, 1,009 placed by segment and side, 467 fragments not drawn.
  • The body is ours. The glass outline, the swimming physics and the lamp are ours. Only the lamp feeds the body back into the brain.
  • Coins aren't the worm's. A SPAWN coin's buys poke it at a spot we pick from the coin's address, and each coin's own worm is a copy fed only that coin's trades. The worm knows nothing about coins or prices, and it doesn't pick winners.

Run it yourself

npm run lab

Runs every registered test with the same code (shared/lab.js) on the same wiring, and prints each question, rule, result and verdict. Every machine gets the same numbers. The last lines give the results SHA-256. It should be:

node scripts/lab.js --json lab.json also writes every number to a file. The code is on the Docs page.
